The siderurgical gases of Sidmar are treated in the Rodenhuize power plant. Two out of the three units of this plant are at the end of their lifecycle and will close down before the end of 2012. Sidmar has, together with Arcelor, chosen Electrabel for the construction of a new power plant that would produce electricity from the siderurgical gases.
Electrabel will build a power plant on the Sidmar site with a total capacity of 350 MW. It will also transform unit 4 of the Rodenhuize plant, in order to provide a back-up, with a capacity of 200 MW. The new plant will have an efficiency of 42 % and save 100 000 tonnes of CO2 annually.

Construction works started in August 2007. The plant should be operational by mid-2010.
Knippegroen, the name of the project, refers to the former name of the area were the power plant arises.
